Each year the State of Tennessee spends billions of dollars on contracts for goods and services. Effective April 1, 2012, there will be major changes in state procurement, including consolidation of contracts for goods and services in a single office, a new procurement commission, and an advisory council in which contractors, state officials, and the public can discuss issues in procurement and recommend changes to the system. The Commissioner of General Services has stated his belief that more purchases should be pushed into state contracts to maximize the state’s purchasing power. We will keep you posted on the new system and changes as they are developed.
